We will rely on you to harvest the fresh herbs and roots that you will be taking to market to display and sell. Communicating about herbs is a central part of this job.
Market day includes loading and driving a large Sprinter van to NYC market, working the market, driving back to the farm and unloading (1x per week; 17-hour shift; Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday); you will work a long rewarding day and will experience GrowNYC Greenmarkets at Union Square and Brooklyn Grand Army Plaza.
Guaranteed 31 hours per week; two positions available
Position 1: Monday (3:30a-8:30p), Tuesday (7a-2p), Friday (7a-2p)
Position 2: Tuesday (7a-2p), Friday (7a-2p), Saturday (3:30a-8:30p)
Position 3: Tuesday (7a-2p), Wednesday (3:30a-8:30p), Friday (7a-2p)
These hours are not flexible due to our responsibility to markets. Must live within 25 minutes of the farm.
This position will be in the greenhouse, as we seed, water, care for, and transplant all our crops for the upcoming season and prepare for them to be ready to go into the ground. This requires a lot of standing while working over planting trays, organization, and attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks.
Once the crops are transplanted, there will be hours available for harvesting, weeding and general field upkeep.
Hours: March through November; Monday - Friday; 4 hour blocks as needed
This position is for the early riser, as you will be starting brew at 7 am in order to finish by noon and work on other kitchen production projects in the afternoon.
We are looking for your ability to follow the various recipes to brew, bottle, and label tisanes and elixirs. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations for recipes.
Multitasking and organizational skills necessary as you will be brewing multiple products at once.
Hours: Monday (8a-4p), Tuesday (7a-4p), Wednesday (8a-4p)
Available starting April
Washing dishes during the brewing process, making sure the brewer has what is needed in a timely manner; dishes can range from very large pots to small bottles. Mopping the floor and general cleanup at the end of the shift.
Don’t worry, you will be interacting with other employees and participating in other aspects of the herbal product process.
